New House, Jordans
Re-development of a countryside home in an Arts & Crafts style.
This new home for a private client was designed in a traditional Arts & Crafts style to reflect the architectural heritage of Jordans village, a conservation area.
The new house shares the site with one of the original Rowntree house’s and had to complement this in terms of height, form and materials to be successful. The palette of external materials were kept to a minimum with the emphasis on detail.
Internally there is a contemporary feel which belies the traditional exterior. At the rear a large expanse of glazing to the kitchen and reception rooms with views into the garden link the building to the landscape. The entrance hall is a spectacular double height space with a vaulted ceiling, incorporating a gently curved galleried landing. The house marries traditional elements of the past with contemporary design to provide an individual, unique home.
